Everybody

U   This will be the last Middle School News of 2011! We wish you and your families and merry Christmas and a blessed new year! We are thankful for all you do! J

U   Come and watch the boys and girls basketball teams as the play in the Wildcat Classic Basketball Tournament here at Salem.  Both teams won their first round games.

U   Christmas Service parts have been assigned.  Every student has a part and the parts need to be memorized.  The service will be held at Salem on December 19th at 7 p.m. Students should dress in dress code clothes or better. Jeans are NOT allowed to be worn for the performance.

U   Please bring in a new toy for our Toys for Tots collection!  Bins are located near the office.

U   Salem church and school would like to thank the Affton fire department, police, and others who have so generously supported Salem over the year. We are asking families and staff to bring in a plate of cookies that we can take to area businesses, etc. in the area as a way of saying Thank You. If you would like to donate cookies, they can be brought to school on Monday or Tuesday, (December 12 and 13th) or Monday or Tuesday, (Decmember 19th or 20th). We would appreciate any donation you can make.

5th GRADE

U    

Math – Test Friday, Dec. 16, through lesson 53.  We will review in class next week.

Language –  We are working on parodies of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”

Literature- Book groups are going well! I’m enjoying watching them work together! All unit materials are due December 16.

Religion- Memory work on Galatians 3:11.  We’re going to the Christmas Gift Shop at 8:15 on Friday, December 16. 

Science- Tests were taken on Thursday.  We will be working on electricity before Christmas

Spelling- This week’s words are Christmas words! This is our last word list before the new year! Our words are: mistletoe, caroling, gold, frankincense, myrrh, scrooge, poinsettia, peppermint, holly, Bethlehem

History-

 

6TH GRADE

 

U   We are having some lessons on bullying on Mondays for the next few weeks with Ms. Capotorto.

U   Make Church or Sunday School priority this weekend.

Religion We will be finishing the teaching of Jesus

Math – Test Friday, Dec. 16, through lesson 54. We will review in class next week.

Memory –Christmas memory  Work on the songs.

Literature – IRB due date is Dec. 16.  We will watch the movie, “Where the Red Fern Grows”  next week in class.  A test over the book will be on Tuesday, Dec. 20.  There will be a study guide sent home to prepare for the test.

Science- Test on faults today.  Earthquakes nest week.

Language- Pronouns are complete.  We are writing a person experience essay before Christmas.

Spelling – Unit 15 next week.

History- Chapter 8Kheperkare Senwosret, Maatkare Hatshepsut,  Wosermaar Setepenre Ramesses Meryamun.  Old, Middle and New Kingdom pharaohs and their monuments.  What are the Two Illnesses and was there a vaccination?  Test on Monday, December  19th

7TH GRADE

 

U   I will be contacting each family to check in and see how things are going now that we’re halfway through the year. Throughout the year if you ever have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

U   We will be going to “Santa’s Kottage” on Thursday December 15 from 9:45-10:30. Information was sent home on Tuesday Dec. 6.  I can’t guarantee that we will be able to go on Friday so please be prepared with enough money if your child would like to shop.

U   We are helping in the worship services on Jan 7-8. There was a sheet sent home that needs to be filled out and returned. Please ask to see it!

U   We will have a 7th grade parent meeting on Wednesday Jan 11 to discuss trivia night, confirmation, graduation, and the other responsibilities 7th grade has.

 

Language –  We are writing parodies of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”  

Literature – Almost done with “Nothing But the Truth”. If time allows, we’ll sneak in “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.

Science-We are studying evolution and the Christian response.  Papers are due Tues. Dec. 20th.

Math (Mr. Koenig) –Quiz on Friday, December 16th which will be gauged to your individual progress and personal best..

Geography – Conclusion of discussions between the developed world and the developing world and a surprise on Tuesday, December 20.

Research – Presentations of power points have finally begun!

Health and Fitness – We finished yoga and are now in the classroom learning about nutrients and healthy eating.

Leadership – Presentations continue on Monday.

Art - The art final exam is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 16, with a review on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

 

 8TH GRADE  

U   Steve will be our KGOD announcer next week. Ethan will be for the following week.

U   See the attached sheet for other important information.

U   There will be an important meeting for 8th grade parents on January 11, 2012.  There are many important dates and events coming up during the 2nd semester for 8th graders.  Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this important meeting.  If you will not be able to attend, please let me know as soon as possible.

 

Confirmation  - Test corrections are due by the 21st.

Language – We will continue with the study of pronouns.

Algebra – Test Friday, Dec. 16 through lesson 51. We will do a practice test before then.

Literature –  Things are getting intense in “Zach’s Lie”.  The book test will be Friday December 16.  The test will include vocabulary, character matching, short answer, and essay questions.

Science- Rube Goldberg’s and simple machines.  Test will be December 20th.

History –   Test on Tuesday on the Declaration and what the Founders knew.  The Revolutionary War—Toll and Triumph.  Viva la Revolutión!
